A North Carolina woman was implanted with C. R. Bard Avaulta and Align pelvic mesh devices, and suffered severe injuries. The jury found the devices were defectively designed and failed to contain adequate warnings of the risks, and awarded $23 million to the woman for her severe injuries including pudendal nerve injury, $10 million to her husband for his loss of consortium claim, and $35 million in punitive damages to punish C.R. Bard for its willful and wanton disregard for the health and safety of the plaintiff and others.
